Jim and Lisa Favors aboard their new trailerable trawler, Kismet

Two Long-Distance Cruisers find the "Upside" of "Downsizing"

Having been avid boaters in the Great Lakes for over twenty years, wes spent the first year of retirement traveling the 6,000-mile Great Loop route on our boat, Kismet.

We have published two books while on our boating adventures – the first, "When the Water Calls... We Follow," gives 27 different perspectives on experiencing the Great Loop boat trip. The second, "Women On Board Cruising," is written by 25 women boaters who share the trials and tribulations of long-distance cruising from a woman's perspective.

We have been writing a twice-monthly Log for BoatU.S. online Cruising Logs BoatUS Cruising Logs. We chronicled our second Loop trip in these logs and are currently writing about the trailer trawler lifestyle. We also maintain a popular Great Loop blog favorsgreatloopblog.com which is more a visual depiction of doing the Loop and Lisa has been selling stock photography to a few boating magazines. We 're excited to continue with our boating adventures on our new Kismet, a Ranger Tug R27.

We can't wait to experience the flexibility of being able to drive our heavy duty truck and trailerable trawler right to our destination and drop it in the water. This also means that we’ll be able to bring our boat home in the summer to once again cruise our home waters of the Great Lakes, which we’ve sorely missed during our time spent doing the Great Loop boat trip. (We've been liveaboards on our trawler, Kismet, for the last five years.)
